The power of feedback
Why?
Feedback is essential in today’s business world. Feedback is the starting signal for change, for learning. When we expect team members to be open to feedback from clients, it is also essential that we are open internally to the feedback from team members. Being positive helps: It is more important to know what is going well than to point out what needs to be changed.
If you want to give effective feedback, it is important that this:
- Is given on an ongoing basis
- That it is formulated correctly in such a way that the other person is able to hear it
- Is heard
- Is given in a culture where feedback is expected and appreciated.
What you will learn in this module.
How to give feedback so that you ensure that the other person is able to hear it, that the message is understood correctly and that it results in a change in behaviour.
In reality it doesn’t always succeed like this and in practice it seems that it is essential to actually create a culture of feedback if you want skills to really be applied.
The general attitude towards feedback can only evolve if everyone in the company shares this same opinion and implements it seriously.
By making feedback a priority in a company’s operations, it becomes a part of daily activity. In this way difficult messages in appraisal discussions are reduced to repetitions of something that does not come as a surprise and that is even superfluous on occasion.
The high frequency of feedback sessions also ensures that there is an increased opportunity to give positive feedback which in turns reinforces the feedback culture and increases the capacity to be able to hear comments that are less fun to receive.
Output.
This module contains elements for attaining a culture of giving positive feedback. Elements that are about more than simply mastering the skills required to formulate feedback correctly.
